Daniel Jones, offense flounder as Giants waste countless chances in loss to Bengals

Countless chances were wasted by the Giants in their loss to the Bengals, as Daniel Jones and the offense floundered

There were plenty of chances for the Giants to really get their season going. There were many chances for them to finally win a big game. The Giants had everything in front of them, but they couldn’t understand it.

For the second time, they were not able to score enough points to win. In the NFL, one touchdown isn’t enough, even though their defense made a lot of plays and sacked quarterback Joe Burrow for long parts of the game on Sunday night.

The Giants finally ran out of time and lost to the Bengals 17–7, showing that they are still terrible at MetLife Stadium.

Daniel Jones threw a bad interception in the first quarter, and kicker Greg Joseph missed a 47-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter that could have tied the game. Jones is now 1-15 in his career under the lights.

In the end, the Giants were not able to make up for these mistakes. With 3:01 left in the game, Jones’ pass to Darius Slayton on fourth down was picked off by DJ Turner. They were driving but were behind 10–7.

The Giants had a chance to get the ball back, but Burrow completed a 33-yard pass to Andrei Iosivas on third down.

With Micah McFadden’s reach, Chase Brown lost the ball, giving the Giants another chance to get it back. However, Jason Pinnock was not able to grab it.

A team only gets a certain number of chances. With 1:52 left, Brown ran 30 yards for a score that won the game. With the win, the Bengals (2-4) saved their season. They are once again taking one step forward and one step back, which doesn’t help them get anywhere.

This was the third time this season that they had a chance to win two games in a row but missed. The last time the Giants won three straight games was in Weeks 11, 12, and 14. As of now, they haven’t done that since.

This is not how the Giants (2-4) wanted to start their much-anticipated Week 7 matchup with Saquon Barkley and the Eagles (3-2). They are still in last place in the NFC East.

The Commanders (4-2) and Cowboys (3-3) both lost this weekend, leaving the division very open. For now, though, the Giants are ahead of everyone else.

There were no points scored and only 119 yards of offense for the Giants in the first half. They were behind 7-0 and didn’t look like they could get close to the end zone.

Their first play of the third quarter ended in a three-and-out, and they were desperate for something to happen when they took over on their 21-yard line early in the quarter. Bobby Okereke forced Zack Moss to fumble, and McFadden recovered the ball.

After that, there was a slow 16-play drive that included two fourth-down picks by rookie running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. and a call on Turner for 18 yards in the end zone for pass interference against Slayton.

With 5:48 left in the third quarter, Tracy caught it from one yard out, giving the Giants their first points. With a pass from Burrow to Ja’Marr Chase, the Bengals drove to the Giants’ 1-yard line. Chase caught the pass and took it 33 yards, beating Flott.

The Bengals had to settle for an Evan McPherson field goal because of a holding penalty and a sack by Dexter Lawrence. This made the Giants’ lead 10–7.With 10:27 left, the Giants had a chance to tie the game, but Joseph missed the field goal from 47 yards out.

With 51 seconds left, he missed another 47-yarder wide to the left. Even though most teams these days wait until the second half to take the ball, the Bengals won the coin toss and took it right away.

It was clear that head coach Zac Taylor wanted to set the tone right away by putting Burrow on the field first. It turned out to be a smart choice.

He didn’t use his arm to kill the Giants; he used his legs instead. He ran for 11 yards to get a first down, and then he really punished the Giants.

It was third-and-18 for the Bengals after Brian Burns got a sack, but Burrow was able to escape. Did he ever. Burrow looked to the right side of the field and saw nothing but green. He then took off.

He ran 47 yards and dove to the goal post for a score to make it 7-0. No one could stop him. But Burrow isn’t known for having quick legs. With that one run, he tied his career high for most yards gained in a game.

The Giants tried to answer. They got four first downs, and Jones was getting into a good flow with the pass until the bad DJ came on.

He was being pushed by B.J. Hill, a former Giants defensive lineman, and threw the ball away while backpedaling, with Hill in his face.

The ball went over the middle and never got close to Theo Johnson, a rookie tight end who was supposed to catch it. The easy interception was made by linebacker Germaine Pratt.

Jones had mostly stopped making that kind of stupid play this season, but it came up at a bad time.
